Why Choose Optical Gallery NY for Your DMV Vision Test?

  • DMV‑Approved Provider: We’re listed in the NYS Vision Registry, which means no paper MV‑619 form—results transmit instantly.

  • Fast & Convenient: Most screenings take under 15 minutes; combine with an eye exam or eyewear pickup.

  • Expertise: Conducted by a board‑certified optometrist and licensed optician using calibrated Snellen and computerized acuity charts.

  • Evenings & Weekends: Extended hours to fit your schedule.

  • One‑Stop Eye Care: If you need glasses or a corrective lenses restriction removed, we can update your prescription on the spot.

What the NY DMV Requires

  • Visual Acuity: Minimum 20/40 in at least one eye, with or without corrective lenses.

  • Peripheral Vision: At least 140° horizontal field of view.

  • If you wear contacts or glasses, you must bring them. A “Corrective Lenses” restriction will appear on your license unless you meet standards unaided.

If you don’t meet the standard, we’ll discuss options—new glasses, contact lenses, or referral for medical follow‑up—and retest at no extra charge within 30 days.

Our 4‑Step Screening Process

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment?

  • Walk‑ins are welcome, but booking ahead guarantees zero wait time.

Can you submit results for an out‑of‑state license?

  • No. The NYS Vision Registry only serves New York licenses and permits.

What if I fail?

  • We’ll advise corrective options and offer one complimentary retest within 30 days.

Is this the same as an eye exam?

  • No. A DMV screening checks only distance vision and field of view. A full exam evaluates eye health, prescription, and medical conditions.

Will my license show a restriction?

  • If you require glasses or contacts to reach 20/40, your license will read “Corrective Lenses Required.” We can re‑screen you without correction if your vision improves after new eyewear or surgery.
